Happy Halloween! Well, it’s almost Halloween. But ‘tis the season all the same, right? In honor of the spookiest time of year, it only makes sense to celebrate the best of one of the world’s premiere Halloween events! Halloween Horror Nights in 2021 was one of the best ever put on by Universal Orlando and it is time to reflect on it one year later. It was during HHN 2021 that I fell in love with Emily Quick, who’s also making her first-ever appearance on the podcast this week! She provides a ton of enthusiastic insight and lovely commentary on the event as we count down our five favorite haunted houses put on by the team behind the screams. Happy Halloween holiday to all! Top Five Taylor Swift Songs with Kate Rose and Courtney Colen

Image from NBC

I just couldn’t wait until midnight! With one hour remaining until Taylor Swift releases her tenth studio album, Midnights, it is the perfect time to release an episode that has long been in the bag – just waiting for Taylor to help the stars align. Good friends Kate Rose and Courtney Colen joined the show (not the first appearance for either!) to talk about our favorite Taylor Swift songs – ever! (Not limited to just one album!) But with a topic this massive and important to the podcast, it couldn’t be an ordinary installment. Instead, it had to be a DRAFT! That’s right, soon enough it’ll be time to vote again on who won the draft. But for now, just enjoy the fact that we’re going to dish on fifteen songs (and then some) for nearly two hours. Swifties rejoice! This is our tome and tribute to her all-time artistry.

We are rapidly approaching the one year anniversary of Spider-Man: No Way Home, so it’s only logical to devote the 101st episode to lots of Spider-Man talk! A friend from all the way back to fifth grade, Lena Sheldon, joins the episode this week for her first ever appearance! And she brings all of her expertise on everyone’s favorite web-crawler/wall-slinger, Peter Parker/Miles Morales/Gwen Stacy/etc. We discuss the best Spider-Man portrayals we’ve ever seen on screen (movies, television, theme parks, and more included. Top Five Comic Strips with Dad

Image from The New Yorker

Folks, it’s the 100th episode of Goodbye Mello Brick Road! Can you believe it? That’s more than Breaking Bad! It’s crazy that this podcast started five years ago and we’ve now eclipsed a major milestone – nearly simultaneously! I love this hobby and I love all the people who take the time to share it with me. To celebrate, my dad is back on the show! He joins the five-timers club. Fun fact, though: his first appearance was in the first episode! It was only fitting to them have him back for the centennial mark, too! Together, we don’t come up with lists for our favorite comic strips, but rather we unpack the history behind many of them. It’s a great ep and one I’m proud to be the 100th. Here’s to 100 more and lots more love with everyone! You’re the best.

Top Five Pixar Movies with Ryan Foley and Kristin

Image from Moviefone

Congratulations to Stevie on winning the Twitter poll for last week’s Disney movie draft! Why not keep the good times rolling ahead of the D23 Expo this weekend with the best Pixar movies? In a nearly two year old episode, recorded after the release of Soul (hence why there’s no Turning Red, Lightyear, or Luca discussion), Ryan Foley and KL return to talk about the best cinematic offerings from one of the best animation studios to ever do it! Pixar is responsible for high quality movies and it’s nearly impossible to rank them, but if you cook up a top five, feel free to send them along! See if you can top what Ryan and I were capable of!

From Twitter

Oh yes, oh yes, it’s the big Charleston contest! And it’s also the time of year when Goodbye Mello Brick Road unleashes a holiday special. Three years ago, we counted down the top five Christmas specials with Mom, Dad, and Nicole. Two years ago, Jess Garcia stopped by to rank the top five holiday songs. This year, Goodbye Mello Brick Road returns in the interim between seasons three and four for another surefire classic Christmas podcast! This one is all about the best Christmas things. What does this mean? Well, you’ll have to listen to the pod to hear! Fortunately, it’s a listen that goes down as smoothly as eggnog because two of the greatest GMBR guests ever are back for another tri-pronged attack on the topic. It’s Kristin and Ryan Foley! These two are venerable five-timers by now and our countdown of the best Christmas things is sure to make your holiday warmer and brighter! Top Five Saturday Night Live Hosts with Kelly Mahaffey

From IndieWire

It’s the season three finale of Goodbye Mello Brick Road! To bring this year-long podcast extravaganza to a close, I am delighted to welcome my dear friend, Kelly Mahaffey! Kelly makes her first appearance to close out the third arc of GMBR and we are breaking down our top five hosts of Saturday Night Live! The widely volatile show has some hilarious moments, of course, but oftentimes, it’s the host who brings the laughs. On the podcast, though? Kelly brings all the fun and I’m just the one hosting! Kelly is great and I can think of no other way to end the season than by finally talking with her! And don’t worry, a fourth GMBR season is already in the works and there will be some special offseason surprises, too! Happy day to all!

Top Five Things You Hate to Hear with Jenn Nicol

From HearingAids.com

Of all the things you hate to hear, these have got to be ten of them. Back in January, one of the best people in the entire world stopped by the podcast to talk about the top five things she hates to hear! The episode was so good that I wanted to save it for the home stretch of season three. And now, here we are! Jenn Nicol is back on Goodbye Mello Brick and we’re talking about things we truly hate to hear. Words, music, noises, speeches. There are so many aspects of the audio medium and each of them have their own claim of either being loved or hated to be heard. That’s enough passive voice for a lifetime, so what are you waiting for? This podcast with Jenn is something you’ll love to hear!

Top Five Movies That Teach Us About Love and Ourselves with Julianna Gallagher

From IMDB

The romance genre isn’t just about meet-cutes, serendipity, and falling in love. It’s a wide range of storytelling that includes rom-coms, musicals, and – in some cases – stories of a marriage falling apart. No matter what the story is that’s being told in a romance movie, there’s something in there that can teach us a little more about ourselves and a little more about love. That’s the expert analysis brought to the table by Julianna Gallagher, who suggested both the topic and the title! Making her second appearance on Goodbye Mello Brick Road, Julianna cements her status as an all-time great by getting in the weeds on some in-depth, thoughtful, reflective conversations about what movies have to teach us about ourselves and about our love lives. She’s one of the most incredible people on this planet so her opinions and takes will always be the most valuable a podcast like this can offer. Thanks, Julianna!

Top Five Pandemic Sports Storylines with Pete Peterson

From Bleacher Report

Sports are back! Should they be? That’s a question for another day. But for now, sports are back! Baseball is in full swing (unless you’re a Florida Marlin), basketball tips off tonight, and hockey is due to resume this weekend. That means it was the perfect time to have the awesome Pete Peterson back on the podcast! Together, we break down predictions for the 2020-21 NFL season (if they have it), NBA regular season awards, how long the MLB season might last, if college sports are possible, why hockey might be in the position of all, and the change in store for the Washington professional football team. Pete also makes a lofty challenge to other friends of the pod, including Joey Baitt, Dustin Beach, and Ryan Walsh. Entirely unprovoked, he challenges each of them to debate sports with him! Top Five Little Women Scenes with Kate Rose and Julianna Gallagher

From The New York Times

“I want to be great or nothing.” That’s one of the driving sentiments of the 2019 adaptation of Little Women, as directed by Greta Gerwig. This also just happens to be one of the greatest movies ever made! Saoirse Ronan plays Jo, Emma Watson portrays Meg, Florence Pugh is Amy, and Eliza Scanlen brings Beth to life (and death). The whole film is just pure brilliance that appeals to literary minds, romantic hearts, and everything in between. That’s why it was imperative for me to talk with two people who have massive minds and hearts: Kate Rose and Julianna Gallagher! Kate makes her return and Julianna makes her debut to discuss Little Women, specifically the five best scenes from it! They are both such lovely people and it resulted in one of my favorite podcasts ever. The whole thing just makes the heart happy!

This week, Zev Behar makes his prodigal return to the podcast and we are talking about all sorts of attractions from the four parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom) of Walt Disney World! We’re approaching this in a bit of an unconventional way, though. We’re assigning our own superlatives (like Most Likely to Succeed, Class Clown, that sort of thing, per Jimmy Fallon) to the attractions. Which ones are the clunkiest? Which are the best? Top Five Movies from the Late 1980s and Early 1990s with Courtney Campbell

From The Hollywood Reporter

I am very happy to announce that Courtney Campbell is this week’s guest! Making her third appearance on the podcast, Courtney stops by to talk about her favorite movies from the late 1980s and the early 1990s. This time was an era for John Hughes comedies, high-concept sci-fis, and some of the most acclaimed fantasies! But the decades are always versatile and filled with talented filmmakers and performers. Courtney, a major lover of film, is exceedingly qualified to talk about this topic and it always makes me so happy to reconnect with her!

Top Five Movies Nominated for Best Picture Since 2009 with Nicole Mello

The Oscars are this Sunday and my sister, Nicole Mello, and I are talking about them! Therefore, a year after we discussed the Wakanda-based superhero phenomenon, Nicole rejoins the show to discuss some of our favorite movies that have been nominated for the main award in that time.

My full predictions for the 91st Academy Awards can be read over on Saoirse Ronan Deserves an Oscar!
